Yes, eventually, but probably not for the work you think. An AI employee is very good at repetitive, checkable tasks like admin, drafts and tracking. People are still needed for judgement, relationships and responsibility. For most solopreneurs the smart order is AI employees first for the routine work, then a person when the business needs someone who can decide, not just do.
This is one of the questions we hear most from founders who are thinking about their first hire. Here is a straight answer, without the hype in either direction.
What an AI employee does well
An AI employee is set up for one job and does it the same way every time. It does not get tired of repetitive work and it never forgets a step. That makes it strong at:
- Sorting and summarising email, notes and documents.
- Recording income, expenses and receipts so your books are ready for your accountant.
- Drafting first versions of posts, replies, proposals and reports.
- Research and lists: suppliers, prospects, events, grants.
- Keeping trackers and dashboards up to date, so you see what needs you each morning.
What still needs a person
There are parts of running a business that an AI employee should not own, however good the tools get:
- Judgement calls. Pricing, saying no to a client, choosing between two good options.
- Relationships. Clients buy from people they trust. Calls, check ins and difficult conversations need a human voice.
- Responsibility. Someone has to answer for a decision, sign a contract or put things right when they go wrong.
- Work in the physical world. Cooking, delivering, filming, meeting clients in person.
- New and messy problems. Work that has never been done before is hard to write instructions for.
How the two work together
The best setups we see use both. AI employees take the routine work so that a person, whether that is you or someone you hire, spends their time on the work only a person can do. A good pattern:
- The AI employee prepares: drafts, sorts, tracks and flags.
- The person decides: approves, edits, sends and handles the relationship.
- The system records: everything done is logged, so nothing depends on memory.
This also makes a future hire easier. When your routine work already runs through clear instructions and trackers, a new person can step in quickly instead of learning everything from your head.
When it is time to hire a human
Consider bringing in a person, part time or full time, when:
- You spend more time reviewing and approving than the AI saves you.
- Clients need a named contact who is not you.
- There is work in the physical world that you cannot do alone.
- You need someone who can make decisions while you are away.
- You need someone to look after the whole operation and spot what to change, not just complete tasks.

Common questions
Will an AI employee replace my virtual assistant?
It can take over the repetitive parts of the role. Many founders keep a person for client facing work and judgement, and find that person becomes more valuable once the routine work is handled.
Is an AI employee cheaper than hiring?
For routine tasks, usually yes: a custom AI employee from us is a one off €150. But it does a narrower job than a person, so compare it with the specific tasks you want off your plate, not with a whole role.
Can an AI employee talk to my clients?
It can draft messages to clients, but we set every AI employee up so that you approve before anything is sent. Your clients hear from you.
